Types of Motherboards
The type of motherboards depends on the CPU it was designed for. Simply nowadays mostly motherboard are socket base. Only you take care that the Processor you buy to fix on the motherboard must support the family of motherboard.
For Example. If you plan to buy a Intel Original Motherboard Series which is classified as Pentium 1,2,3 and 4 then you check the supported Processor which is like Intel Pentium 4 - 3.0 Ghz (Giga Hertz is the speed of the processor)

When Buying a Motherboard
As everything you have on the PC at some point needs the motherboard, you need to consider these components when buying a motherboard.

• Processor Support
• Check PCI Slots (more slots are required if you have more PCI cards to put in)
• Memory Slots (3-4 slots are required for future memory expansions.)
• Hard Disk Interface Support (both SATA or ATA Supported)
• Built in Graphics, Audio and Network Card interface.
• AGP Slot or PCI Express Card Slot. (for 3D Graphics Support)

Assemble the Computer System

Make sure you have all the components needed.
i-e. Computer Case, Motherboard, Hard Disk, Floppy Drive, Combo or DVD Writer,  
Video Card, Sound Card, Network Card, Modem, CRT Monitor or LCD.

- Place the CPU on the Motherboard.
- Screwing the motherboard to the computer case.
- Inserting your RAM.
- Connecting your power supply to the board.
- Connect the Other Connectors and LEDs
- Install the Hard Disk
- Install the Floppy Drive
- Install the CD-ROM
- Install the Cards (if you don’t have built in with the motherboard)
- Setting up your BIOS.
- Booting up for the first time.
